What Does Soccer Heading Do to the Brain?
Heading is a routine part of soccer, but researchers are still working to understand how repeated head impacts may affect the brain over time. Following this summerâs World Cup, questions about the long-term effects of heading feel especially timely.
Dr. Michael Alosco joins us to discuss what research reveals about repetitive head impacts in soccer, how heading may affect the brain over time, and what questions remain unanswered. Heâll also explain what players, parents, coaches, and clinicians should understand about risk, prevention, and long-term brain health.
Alosco is a professor of neurology at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and co-director of clinical research at the BU CTE Center. His research focuses on repetitive head impacts, chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), biomarkers, and the long-term effects of head trauma.
Join us Thursday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET for a Live Talk about what science tells us about soccer heading and the brain.
RSVP to join the conversation.
