AAIC Day 4: On the Ground With Alzheimer’s Innovators in Toronto
At AAIC 2025, innovators are showcasing advances in brain scanning and AI-driven data analysis that aim to accelerate Alzheimer's research.
The Being Patient team is on the ground at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) 2025 in Toronto. On day four, one theme stood out: technology. In a quick video update from the floor of the conference center, Being Patient founder and editor-in-chief Deborah Kan shared how advances in technology — from brain scanning innovations to artificial intelligence — are shaping the future of Alzheimer’s research and care.
“What we’re seeing here is a lot of scanning technology, different ways to conduct PET, different ways [to use] artificial intelligence to analyze large data sets… That’s really going to change the trajectory for both treatments and looking for medications, identifying patients. It really impacts the whole ecosystem,” Kan said.
This year’s conference is showing how tools like advanced imaging and AI-driven analysis can speed up the process of identifying patients, developing medications, and ultimately changing the trajectory of treatments for Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Among the technologies showcased, a VR headset for dementia caregiver training, and a rapid, mobile MRI. Stay tuned for more on those, and follow along here and on Being Patient’s LinkedIn for more on-the-ground insights and interviews from AAIC 2025.
