SUMMARY:“I’m Still Me”: Scott Redfern on Living With Alzheimer’s
DESCRIPTION:“I’m Still Me”: Scott Redfern on Living With Alzheimer’s\nJourney to Diagnosis is a Being Patient series sponsored by Eisai. As with all of our reporting\, the sponsor has no role in choosing guests\, shaping questions\, or reviewing content before publication. \nScott Redfern first noticed signs of cognitive change about five years ago while speaking with customers at work. He was getting stuck on words\, often writing it off as a “senior moment.” But with a family history of Alzheimer’s disease\, Redfern decided to see a neurologist. He was diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment\, or MCI\, and later received an Alzheimer’s diagnosis after an amyloid PET scan confirmed the presence of amyloid in his brain. \nAfter his diagnosis\, Redfern retired and began focusing on how to move forward. Today\, he volunteers in environmental conservation and climate change advocacy\, mentors young people\, and writes about his experience with Alzheimer’s on his Substack\, “I’m Still Me.” He is also receiving Leqembi infusions\, a treatment that can help slow the progression of Alzheimer’s in its early stages. \nJoin us Friday\, July 10\, at 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET for a Live Talk with Redfern about recognizing early symptoms\, navigating the path from MCI to an Alzheimer’s diagnosis\, adjusting to life after diagnosis\, and finding purpose through writing\, volunteering\, and advocacy. \nRSVP to hear Scott Redfern’s story.

SUMMARY:Memory Generation: Theater\, Dementia\, and Stories That Connect Us
DESCRIPTION:Memory Generation: Theater\, Dementia\, and Stories That Connect Us\nSara Zatz and Sherrine Azab join us to discuss Memory Generation\, a new interactive theater work that explores dementia\, caregiving and community through performance\, conversation\, and shared creative experiences. \nCreated by Zatz and directed by Azab\, Memory Generation takes place in a memory café\, where people affected by dementia gather in a setting centered on creativity and connection rather than illness. The piece grew out of conversations with people whose lives have been touched by memory loss\, including caregivers\, artists and community members. The performance explores the emotional complexity of dementia — including grief\, humor\, isolation\, care\, and moments of unexpected joy. \nZatz is also the artistic director of engagement of Pink Fang\, a New York-based creative studio. Azab is a Detroit-based theater director and co-director of A Host of People. \nJoin us Friday\, July 17\, at 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET for a Live Talk with Zatz and Azab on Memory Generation\, creativity\, caregiving\, and the power of theater to build connection around memory loss. \nRSVP to join the conversation.

SUMMARY:The Stimulated Mind: How Everyday Habits Shape Brain Health
DESCRIPTION:The Stimulated Mind: How Everyday Habits Shape Brain Health\nBrain health is shaped by more than age or genetics. The way we exercise\, eat\, sleep\, manage stress\, support our metabolism\, and stay engaged with the world around us may all influence how well the brain functions over time. \nDr. Tommy Wood joins us to discuss his new book\, “The Stimulated Mind\,” and what research suggests about protecting cognitive function across the lifespan. He will explore how lifestyle factors such as physical activity\, nutrition\, sleep\, metabolic health\, social connection\, and mental challenge may help the brain stay adaptable — and why building brain resilience earlier in life may matter for reducing the risk of cognitive decline later on. \nWood is an associate professor of pediatrics and neuroscience at the University of Washington School of Medicine\, where his research focuses on brain health from early development through adulthood. His work spans neuroscience\, metabolism\, physical performance\, brain injury\, and dementia risk. In addition to his academic research\, Wood has advised elite athletes across multiple sports\, bringing together scientific insight and practical strategies for helping people support mental performance and long-term brain function. \nJoin us Friday\, July 24\, at 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET for a Live Talk with Wood about “The Stimulated Mind\,” the science of cognitive longevity\, and the everyday actions that may help keep the brain healthy with age. \nRSVP to join the conversation.
