SUMMARY:Can Eye Bacteria Offer Clues About Cognitive Decline?
DESCRIPTION:Can Eye Bacteria Offer Clues About Cognitive Decline?\nNew research suggests that bacteria found in the eye may be linked to inflammation and cognitive decline. \nDr. Maya Koronyo-Hamaoui joins us to discuss her research on Chlamydia pneumoniae\, a common bacterium associated with respiratory infections\, and its possible connection to Alzheimer’s disease. Her team’s findings suggest that this bacterium may be present in eye and brain tissue and could be linked to immune activity\, inflammation\, and changes in memory and thinking. The research adds to growing interest in the retina as a way to study brain health and neurodegenerative disease.  \nKoronyo-Hamaoui is a professor of neurosurgery\, neurology\, and biomedical sciences at Cedars-Sinai Health Sciences University. Her work focuses on Alzheimer’s disease\, neuroinflammation\, and retinal imaging\, with the goal of improving how neurodegenerative diseases are detected and treated.  \nJoin us Thursday\, May 28\, at 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET for a Live Talk with Koronyo-Hamaoui about the link between eye bacteria and cognitive decline\, what the eye may reveal about Alzheimer’s disease\, and how this research could shape future approaches to diagnosis and treatment. \nRSVP to join the conversation.

SUMMARY:When Memory Fades: What Families Should Expect at Every Stage
DESCRIPTION:When Memory Fades: What Families Should Expect at Every Stage\nThe first signs of memory loss can bring uncertainty\, fear\, and a long list of questions. Families may wonder whether changes are part of normal aging\, when to seek medical advice\, how to talk with loved ones\, and what steps can make daily life more manageable. \nDr. Nathaniel Chin joins us to discuss his new book\, When Memory Fades\, and the guidance families need from the earliest memory concerns through the later stages of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Drawing on his work as a geriatrician and his personal experience caring for his father\, Chin will share how families can approach diagnosis\, build routines\, communicate with one another\, support connection\, and focus on what truly helps.  \nChin is the medical director and clinical core co-lead of the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and an associate professor in the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Department of Medicine. He treats patients\, teaches future physicians and geriatric specialists\, serves on the boards of the Alzheimer’s Association and Alzheimer’s Foundation of America\, and hosts the podcast Dementia Matters. \nJoin us Friday\, June 12\, at 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET for a Live Talk with Chin about navigating Alzheimer’s and dementia with more clarity\, preparation\, and support. \nRSVP to join the conversation.
